Seventh Generation Natural Dishwasher Detergent Pods Review

Spread the love

“Green” or environmentally friendly products are a rising trend in dishwasher detergents.

I’m a big fan of green cleaning products because I like to keep toxic chemicals as far away from myself, my family, and my pets as possible. Another benefit is that they do not pollute the environment once they go down the drain.

This review will talk about one of the most common green dishwasher detergents – Seventh Generation. I’ve chosen to review their detergent packs, although it should be noted that this product also comes in Dish Powder, 75 oz Okay, let’s see how it stacked up against other dishwasher detergents:

Features of the Seventh Generation Natural Dishwasher Detergent

  • Affordable
  • Made with high-quality plant-derived enzymes
  • Natural product with USDA certification
  • Comes with botanical extracts and scented with essential oils
  • Does not emit strong fumes
  • Free from chlorine and phosphates
  • Has biodegradable formula
  • No dyes or synthetic fragrances

Seventh Generation has been around since 1988. As a brand focused on healthy living and the environment, they created a phosphate-free dishwasher detergent before phosphates were proven to pollute lakes, bays and streams and banned in several states. Fun fact: phosphates in our natural water sources create algae blooms and starve fish of oxygen.

One thing I like about Seventh Generation as a brand is that they have a proven track-record of making environmentally responsible decisions before they were popular. In fact the name “seventh generation” is meant to be a reference to the law of the Iroquois which says “in our every deliberation, we must consider the impact of our decisions on the next seven generations.” For our part, we can at least be sure to use dishwasher detergents that do not contain phosphates.

I can honestly say this dishwasher detergent did an excellent job. The product was able to take away even dried food remains on utensils and wine stains on glass. It was also capable of removing caked-on pasta and cheese from ceramic and metal (Wilton) baking dishes.

I did not see any water spots on dishes washed with this item, and they seemed to dry evenly and without streaking. Other than its capability to clean thoroughly, this is an all-natural product that should be used by many. It does not come with artificial dyes or fragrances. It makes use of a potent enzyme system that is plant-based to remove food remains. It does not contain chlorine bleach, is free from phosphates and has a non-toxic formula.

Another thing I liked was that although it comes in a lemon fragrance, scented with natural essential oils and botanical extracts of course, it didn’t release strong fumes the way some of the other all-natural detergents I’ve reviewed can. So if you like a fresh scented detergent but are sensitive to strong odors, this would be a great choice for you.

I wish the lemon fragrance came in larger packages the way that the unscented ones do. If I want to use the lemon ones it seems I must waste more packaging, but this is a minor complaint and the packaging is recyclable.

Seventh Generation Dishwasher Detergent Packs, Free & Clear is easily one of my favorite all natural automatic dishwasher detergents. Their plant-based enzyme formula is safe, reliable, and effective. This product also comes in Lemon Scent which does not contain any synthetic fragrance or dyes. If you are sensitive to smells or do not want a kitchen that reeks of detergent after a wash, this is something that you should consider. It tackled the job of cleaning utensils and cooking equipment well, so this is a good buy. If you want something that packs a punch and is eco-friendly, this is highly recommended. Besides, Seventh Generation is one of the most reputable brands out there who make environmentally sound products. I give it two thumbs up!
