Youtheory Vanilla Collagen Powder Review

Spread the love

This was actually the first brand of collagen I tried but I waited to review it until I tried some unflavored collagen to get a better baseline on the collagen experience. I bought mine at the vitamin shoppe but it is also available on Amazon and at Walmart. I was pleased with it’s price, flavor and mixability.

This product is extremely light and powdery, almost like powdered milk or coffee creamer, compared to other collagen powders which tend to be a bit grittier. I had no problem mixing it with either almond milk or coffee. It smells like vanilla but the flavor was so light that I barely tasted it.

This is a hydrolyzed collagen powder. Before going through hydrolysis, collagen molecules are too large to be effectively absorbed by the digestive tract. Hydrolyzation breaks the collagen down into small molecular weight fragments to maximize absorption. For more general information about hydrolyzed collagen see my main collagen information page.

Youtheory recommends 6 grams per serving, which is below the clinically proven effective 10 gram dose. I recommend 10 grams of hydrolyzed collagen daily. Hydrolyzed collagen’s benefits increase as you drink more of it so with this powder you may want to take twice as much as the manufacturer recommends.

This powder contains collagen types I & III which are found extensively together throughout the body and are recommended to be taken together. It does not contain collagen type II, which is recommended for joint pain. It is sometimes suggested that type II collagen should be taken separately from types I & III for optimum absorption.

Supplementing with types I and III collagen can stimulate the body’s regenerative potential to achieve younger looking skin.

This is a recognizable brand that is conveniently available in many markets including the Vitamin Shoppe, Walmart, and Amazon.

It contains types I & III collagen which are proven to benefit skin, hair, nails, bone, ligaments, tendons, and the dentin in your teeth. For a more in-depth article on the benefits of collagen supplementation see my article

Youtheory collagen also contains Vitamin C which is a necessary cofactor for collagen synthesis. This means you need enough vitamin C for your body to actually use the collagen to repair tissues. If you’re not sure whether you’re getting enough vitamin C in your diet you may want your collagen supplement to contain added vitamin C, or you may want to take a separate vitamin C supplement as well.

This powder smells like vanilla coffee creamer and has a light refreshing taste that won’t overwhelm whatever you’re mixing it into.

This is also an affordably priced product, it costs about half of any other product in its category.

One serving is only six grams of collagen hydrolysate which is below the clinically proven recommended daily dose of 10 grams per day.

Also, because this is a flavored product it contains the filler silicon dioxide and added flavoring. This product is manufactured in a facility that processes whey milk protein and fish extracts. It may contain sulfite residues.

I enjoyed Youtheory Vanilla Collagen Powder and would buy it again. The flavor of this product is very light and easy to drink and the product is available over the counter at many locations. However, this brand recommends a lower serving size than is clinically proven to be effective. You need to take twice as much of it as they recommend to see the results promised by many clinical studies. However, it makes up for the need to take a double serving by costing about half as much as other brands. This formula is also enhanced with Vitamin C to promote internal collagen production and Biotin to support factors important to health and beauty.
